Shiva Meditation Shawl
The shawl is ideal for meditation, yoga, or prayer, and is suitable for both men and women. It can also be used as an altar cloth. The soft and light fabric is decorated with the images and Mantras written in decorative Sanskrit letters and hand-printed by rural artisans of the Indian cottage industry. The contrast of the terracotta design on the yellow cotton cloth highlights the sacred mantras.

More about Om -In Hinduism, the sound of Om is broken down to ‘a-u-m’, representing the Holy Trinity known as the Trimurti. The mantra begins with the sound ‘a’, representing Brahma the Creator, then the middle sound of ‘u’ is Vishnu the sustainer who preserves the world by balancing Brahma on a lotus flower above himself. The concluding ‘m’ sound symbolizes Shiva the Destroyer who brings the final cycle of existence to the universe before it begins all over again.

Prayer Beads
A mala is typically made from 108 beads and one larger additional bead called a sumeru. Begin the round with the sumeru and end when it is reached again. The following round should begin with the same bead upon which the previous round ended. The mala should be held in the right hand with the middle finger and thumb, never with the index finger which is considered inauspicious. With each bead one repeats the mantra.

“Japa is a type of communication between “here” and “beyond”, between the part and the Whole. As in all types of communication, it cannot be the mumbling of empty words, it cannot be a mechanical or robotic repetition, but it must express an authentic and sincere intention. The mantra should be recited with highest attention and deeply interiorized.”

Shabda Brahman [CD] (not pictured)
The Shabda Brahman devotional music album is recommended to anyone interested in mantra meditation, yoga and kirtan. The devotional songs are performed by Prabhuji, who is one of the most respected spiritual masters of our time. He is a sannyasi, an orthodox monk, who has accepted the renounced order of life within Hinduism, and an enlightened yogi, a mystic and philosopher, who has dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity.
